Trying to guess the top or bottom of anything is always risky business. For buying, the best strategy is to let it hit the bottom and buy as it starts to climb. Of course, the natural fear is that you are going to miss an opportunity.

With WTI Crude Oil  at $30.44 and Brent Crude Oil at $30.86 I think we are close to the bottom. I am not going all in, but nibbling at oil stocks. Only go for the robust, well funded stocks. For example, in Canada, go for Suncore or Arc resources over batex. You may make more money with batex, but it is way more risky.

Anyway, nibble away.

Wow. Eight days and all the gains of last year wiped out, and then some.

My portfolio's performance for the year. A little better than 11%.Not my target of 20%, but still not too shabby.

GOLDCORP INC [G] is up +9.78% for me. Not bad. Lets hope it holds.

Call me a creature of habit. Call me irresponsible, but I just could not resist buying some more Goldcorp. Ya ya, I know, but it was down to fifteen and change. Fifteen!!

Anyway it is up to $16.18     +0.92 (6.03%)  Dec 18 - Close 

Lets hope it stays above $16, or goes even higher.
 

I really was expecting some sort of downturn or collapse in October but, nothing. Not even a jitter.

With the rejection of the keystone xl pipeline trans canada pipeline (trp) is down just under 5%. Kinder Morgan Inc (NYSE:KMI) was down form about $15 to around $10, but has since recovered. [edit; I was wrong on kmi. Don't know what I was looking at. was around 25.50, now around 23.44 Still might be a buy] A missed buying opportunity with kmi but perhaps a buying opportunity with trp.

I haven't bought anything, but my portfolio is still doing fairly well. I am at about 12% return. Not my target of 20% but still, pretty healthy. And, I am sitting on a wad of cash.

My portfolio is doing moderately well. The upturns in the s&p 500 and composite indicate we are in the start of an uptrend and should start buying.
